What we actually do

For each category we start from what's available on Amazon Australia, then narrow it down by specification, build quality, and what long-term owners report — not by what's discounted this week.

We read the one-star and three-star reviews rather than the five-star ones. Five-star reviews tell you a product arrived. Three-star reviews tell you what it's like to live with.

What we don't do

We don't claim to have tested everything. Plenty of sites imply hands-on testing they never did. Where we've used something ourselves we say so; where we're going on research, we say that too.

We don't publish prices. Prices on Amazon change constantly, and a stale price on a page like this is worse than no price at all. Every product links straight through so you see the real current price before you commit.

We don't rank by commission. Commission rates vary by category on Amazon, and it would be easy to quietly push the higher-paying ones. Our shortlists don't work that way — where the budget pick is the right answer, it goes at the top.

How we make money

Links on this site are Amazon affiliate links. If you buy something after clicking one, Amazon pays us a small percentage. It costs you nothing extra — the price is identical whether you use our link or go to Amazon directly.

That's the entire business model. No sponsored placements, no paid reviews, no brand deals. If that ever changes, this page changes first.

Getting it wrong

Products get discontinued, revised, and quietly made worse. If something here is out of date or plain wrong, tell us and we'll fix it.
